JOCO 19 TREUTLEN 14

The Johnson County Trojans finished an undefeated region record with a hard fought 19-14 win over Treutlen.  The Trojans had already clinched the region championship.  Johnson County will be at home for the first round playoff game.  This will be the first playoff game that Johnson County has hosted since 2001.  It appears that the opponent will be an old Trojan rival, E. C. I.  An E. C. I. upset of Calvary Day coupled with a Savannah Country Day upset of Portal set up this matchup.

The game with Treutlen got off to a bad start.  Treutlen took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards for a touchdown.  Two big passes on the third and long set up the touchdown.  Jas Snead went in for the touchdown from one yard out.  The drive took 5:45 off the clock.  JOCO moved the ball 22 yards on it's only possession of the quarter.  After a fourth down attempt failed Treutlen was back in business.  Micarlus King picked off an errant Jas Snead pass and returned it for an apparent touchdown but the Trojans were flagged for roughing the passer.  The Vikings then drove the ball down to the Johnson 21 where a fourth down conversion attempt failed early in the second quarter.

Both teams went three and out before Johnson took over at their own 16.  On the second play from scrimmage Cordele Johnson hit Cedric Rawlings for a 77 yard touchdown.  Spencer Hartley kicked the PAT and the score was tied 7-7 with 5:46 left in the half.  Both teams failed to threaten the rest of the first half.

Johnson County took the second half kickoff and drove from their own 43 down to the Treutlen 11.  The Trojans turned the ball over on downs after a Trojan receiver dropped a touchdown pass on fourth down.  Treutlen took the ball from their own 11 down to the Johnson 8 before turning the ball over on downs.  The big play was a 53 yard run by Brandon Taylor.  Taylor was headed for touchdown when he tripped and fell at the Johnson 12.

After a Trojan punt the Vikings took over at the 28.  After getting a first down the Vikings completed a pass to their wide receiver at the 45.  Jon Linder took the ball out of the receiver's hands and raced 43 yards for the touchdown.  The kick was wide left and the score was 13-7 with 9:15 remaining in the game.  After holding Treutlen to a three and out the Trojans took over at the 50.  Back to back 18 yard runs by Kelvis Whitley got the ball down to the 14.  After two more runs by Whitley got the ball down to the six Cordele Johnson ran up the middle for the score.  The conversion pass was intercepted leaving the score 19-7 with 6:36 to play.  The Vikings would not go down easy.  They scored after a fumbled punt return set them up at the Johnson 24.  Jas Snead ran it in from six yards out.  Franklin Williams kicked the extra point to make the score 19-14 with 3:02 remaining.  The Vikings held the Trojans to a three and out which included 20 yards of Trojan penalties.  After a 30 yard punt and a 22 yard punt return by Franklin Williams the Vikings started at the Treutlen 47 with 1:14 remaining.  A big sack on fourth down ended the Viking threat.

Kelvis Whitley led the Trojans with 120 yards rushing on 16 carries.  Cordele Johnson was 5-8 passing for 105 yards.  Cedric Rawlings caught all 5 Johnson passes for 105 yards.
