ATHENS ACADEMY 29 JOHNSON COUNTY 8

Athens Academy took the opening kickoff and went three and out.  Athens Academy got the ball right back, however, when Michael Fitzgerald intercepted a tipped pass at the 50.  The Spartans went on a 9 play drive to punch the ball in the end zone.  Nick Stiles went the final two yards and Clay Cook added the extra point.  The Trojans would answer right back.   A good kickoff return by Antonio King set the Trojans up at their 36 yard line.  Nine plays later Johnson County was in the end zone.  Cedric Rawlings was able to avoid the Spartan rush and hit Kelsey Waters at the goal line.  The 2 point conversion pass to B. J. Murray from Cedric Rawlings gave the Trojans and 8-7 lead with 0:19 seconds remaining in the first quarter.  Dustin Alewine ran the ensuing kickoff back 61 yards to the JOCO 28.  The Spartans would not score, however.  Harvey Harris intercepted a fullback pass that was deflected by B. J. Murray in the end zone.  Johnson County moved the ball 42 yards in 10 plays before a fumble stopped the Trojans drive.  This fumble proved costly.  Just two plays later Carter Gunn would hit Sam Pittard over the middle.  Pittard would make two Trojans defenders miss on his way to the goal line.  Clay Cook would add the extra point and make the score 14-8.  The Trojans would come right back down the field but another fumble at the Spartans 17 yard line would end the drive.  The Spartans threw two interceptions before half but the Trojans were unable to do anything with them.  Rictavious Prosser and B. J. Murray got the interceptions.  The half ended with Athens Academy leading 14-8.

Johnson County took the second half kickoff and went three and out.  Athens Academy would drive into field goal range on 11 plays.  The 34 yard field goal attempt was blocked by the Trojans and picked up by Micarlus King.  King could not escape the clutches of the Spartans defender and the defender was able to punch the ball out.  Athens Academy was back on offense at the 50.  The Spartans scored two plays after a 44 yard pass to Sam Pittard set them up at the JOCO 2 yard line.  Gunn dove in from 1 yard out for the score.  A Gunn to Pittard pass on the conversion gave Athens Academy a 22-8 lead with 1:19 left in the third quarter.  The Trojans would try to answer.  Starting at their own 37 yard line JOCO moved the ball down to the one foot line.  An illegal procedure penalty moved the Trojans just outside the five yard line.  JOCO was not able to convert on a pass and with 8:47 left in the game the ball turned over on downs.    Athens Academy aided by 52 yards of penalties were able to add the final score.  A seven yard run by Bevan Hopper and an extra point kick by Clay Cook provided the final score of 29-8.
