| The Johnson County
Trojans lost to Schley County in a heartbreaker, 25-19. Everybody
expected the game to be high scoring but the halftime score was 10-7 Schley
County. The Trojans scored on their first possession, driving the ball
55 yards in 11 plays. Jake Stephenson went in from the one for the
touchdown. Alan Aros added the extra point. Schley County tied
the score with 6:11 left in the half. The Wildcats drove the ball 59
yards in 9 plays with Deondrick Pina going the final five yards for the
score. Tony Lizarraga added the extra point. Schley County drove
the ball down to the Trojans 19 and on the final play of the half Lizarraga
kicked a 36 yard field goal to give the Wildcats the lead at the half.
In the third quarter JOCO capitalized on a couple of Wildcat fumbles.
After a fumbled snap the Trojans scored in two plays. Jake Stephenson
took it the final 12 yards for the score but the extra point was blocked.
The Wildcats fumbled on their next possession. JOCO ran the ball 11
times down to the Schley County 10. Alan Aros booted a 28 yard field
goal to stretch the Trojans lead to 16-10. Just over two minutes
later, however, Deondrick Pina found Charvis Mann for a 34 yard touchdown.
The Lizarraga kick gave the Wildcats a 17-16 lead with 8:51 remaining in the
game. Johnson County was not done, however. The Trojans marched
down the field, running the ball 11 times down to the Schley County 5.
Coach Norton called on Aros again and again he came through...this time from
22 yards out. The Trojans led 19-17 with 2:40 remaining. The
Wildcats were not done. Pina connected with Mann from 30 yards out for
the winning score. Mann was able to wrestle the ball away from a
Trojan defender who appeared to have the interception. After a two
point conversion the final score was 25-19. Johnson County dominated
the time of possesion, holding the ball for 30:38 to 17:22 for Schley
County. In the second half the Trojans had the ball for 19:28 of 24:00
minutes. Jake Stephenson was the
workhorse for the Trojans, carrying the ball exactly 1/2 of the Trojans
plays. Stephenson finished the night with 137 yards on 27 carries.
The Trojans finish the season with a record of 6-5. With the win
Schley County will travel to Homerville to face Clinch County. |
