| The Johnson County
Trojans (5-4) defeated the Telfair County Trojans (3-6) 28-6 in McRae.
Telfair County took the opening kickoff and went 66 yards on 9 plays to take
a 6-0 lead. The Trojans would answer on their first possession.
JOCO went 74 yards on 9 plays with D. J. Rozier going the final one yard for
the touchdown. Alan Aros would kick his first of three first half extra points to
make the score 7-6. The Trojans turned two Telfair turnovers in the
second quarter into two Ashton Thompson touchdown runs and held a 21-6 lead at halftime.
The second half would see Johnson County dominate. The JOCO defense
limited the Telfair offense to 11 yards rushing and 27 total in the second
half. The JOCO offense would get 169 yards in the second half.
For the game JOCO had 328 yards rushing on 64 carries. Johnson County
completed only one pass in the game but it went for a touchdown. A 36
yard touchdown pass from Tontatious King to Zack Walker on a fourth down and
fourteen in the fourth quarter. Alex Chan added the extra point. The highly touted Telfair County
passing attack was held to just 33 yards on 5-12 passing. The JOCO
rushing attack was led by Jake Stephenson. Jake had 147 yards on 24
carries. Ashton Thompson added 83 yards on 19 carries and Harvey
Harris had 80 yards on 11 carries. Alex Chan added an extra
point for the Trojans. The Johnson County Trojans will face
Hawkinsville next Friday night in Wrightsville. The winner of this
game will qualify for the state playoffs. There seems to be a
considerable amount of confusion concerning the seedings but if the Trojans
win they will be either the #1 or #2 seed in the state playoffs and will
host a first round game. |
