ECI 35 JOCO 12 |
| The
Johnson County Trojans put up a good fight against the defending state
champion, ECI Bulldogs, but came up on the short end of the scoreboard. ECI goes to 7-0 on the season and JOCO goes to 7-1. JOCO will play
Treutlen next week in Wrightsville. With a win, JOCO will finish 2nd
in the sub-region and host a region playoff game.
Just like last week the Trojans got on the
scoreboard quick. Deon Cuyler once again ran the opening kickoff back
for a touchdown. This time from 85 yards to give the Trojans and early
6-0 lead. The Trojans would recover an onside kick but were unable to
move the ball. The Trojan defense got a three and out and JOCO was
once again in business. After getting the ball down to the ECI 29
quarterback D. J. Rozier threw his first interception of the season when his
receiver fell down. ECI drove 80 yards after the turnover to take a
8-6 lead. A penalty on the kickoff would pin the Trojans down at the
8. The Trojans would run 13 plays in a little over six minutes but
were eventually forced to punt. ECI would once again go 80 yards, this
time it took 12 plays. The PAT failed and the score was 14-6. It
would stay this way until halftime.
ECI took the opening kickoff of the third quarter
and would drive 84 yards for another touchdown. Washaun Ealey would go
in from one yard out. This broke the career touchdown record for the
state of Georgia. The score was now 21-6. The Trojans would not
roll over, though. Starting at their own 34 JOCO drove 66 yards in 12
plays. Zack Walker caught a 4 yard touchdown pass from D. J. Rozier on
4th down. The PAT failed and the score was 21-12 with 1:30 remaining
in the thirds quarter.
The Trojan defense had ECI at 4th and 2 from the 42 with just over 10
minutes remaining. However, Washaun Ealey would break a few tackles
and outrace everyone into the endzone. The PAT made the score 28-12.
Tyrone Johnson would score on a 49 yard run for the final score of the
night. On their final possession, with a 35-12 lead and just over two
minutes remaining, ECI would throw deep three times in an effort to pad
their stats. The Trojan defense held.
D. J. Rozier was the offensive star for the
Trojans. Rozier completed 9-14 passes for 81 yards. He also
rushed for 77 yards on 18 carries. Daniel Wright caught six passes for
52 yards and Zack Walker caught 3 passes 37 yards. |
