JOHNSON COUNTY 46 WHEELER COUNTY 14

The Johnson County Trojans improved to 6-0 with a 46-14 victory over the Wheeler County Bulldogs in Alamo.  The win puts the Trojans atop sub-region 3-B with a region record of 3-0.  E. C. I. is currently 2-0.  Previously unbeaten Treutlen lost to Jenkins County 17-14.  JOCO will face Jenkins County next week in Wrightsville in a very important sub-region game.

The game got off to a great start for the Trojans.  On the second play from scrimmage Larry Taylor rushed 52 yards for the touchdown.  The conversion failed and JOCO had a 6-0 lead.  Just a few plays later Shamarko Brown picked off a Wheeler County pass at the Wheeler 42 and raced to the end zone.  After another failed conversion the Trojans led 12-0 with 8:45 remaining in the first quarter.  Wheeler County scored on their next possession to make the score 12-8.  JOCO came right back, going 71 yards in 5 plays.  The big play was 40 yard pass from D. J. Rozier to Zack Walker.  That same combination hooked up for the 7 yard touchdown pass.  The conversion failed and the score was 18-8 with 2:30 left in the first quarter.  Wheeler County showed that they weren't going away when they scored on their next possession.  With almost the entire second quarter remaining the score was 18-14.  The Trojans would put two more scores on the board before halftime.  The first one was set up by a 54 yard kickoff return by Deon Cuyler.  Five plays later D. J. Rozier hit Kevin Rozier from 15 yards out for the score.  The conversion failed again.  The final score of the half came on a 1 yard run by D. J. Rozier.  Daniel Wright connected with Zack Walker for the conversion.  The halftime score was Johnson County 32-14.

On the first possession of the third quarter Wheeler County ran almost seven minutes off the clock before the Trojans defense finally stepped up and got a stop.  The Trojans offense took the ball on their 26 and drove 74 yards in 9 plays.  Two big plays accounted for most of the yardage.  The first...a reverse pass from Zack Walker to Rex Walker on 3rd down and 26.  The second...a 35 yard touchdown pass from D. J. Rozier to Daniel Wright.  The conversion run by D. J. Rozier was good and going to the 4th quarter JOCO led 40-14.  After getting another stop the Trojans were set up at the Wheeler 34.  JOCO got the ball inside the 10 but a couple of minus yardage plays kept the Trojans from scoring.  JOCO got another chance, however, when they recovered a fumble Wheeler 32.  Three plays later the Trojans got the final score of the night.  Larry Taylor went in from 3 yards out.  The conversion run failed and the scored was JOCO 46 Wheeler County 14.  The JV got to play the remaining 4:06.

D. J. Rozier had another good game, passing for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushing for 34 yards and 1 touchdown.  Larry Taylor rushed for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Zack Walker caught 6 passes for 82 yards and 1 touchdown.  A couple of freshmen, Shamarko Brown and Kelvion Johnson, picked off passes for the Trojan defense.
