JOCO 41 CLAXTON 6

The Johnson County Trojans (10-0) finished the regular season with a 41-6 win over region play-in opponent, Claxton.  With the win the Trojans are Region Champions.  This is the 9th Region Championship in school history and the first since 2005.  This is the 3rd time in school history that a Johnson County team has finished the regular season with a 10-0 record.  The other two seasons were in 1992 and 2000.  Also, the 2010 JOCO Trojans scored 401 points in the regular season.  This is 39 points than the previous high of 362 set in 1993.  The 1993 team holds the school record for the overall season with 493 points scored in 15 games.  Johnson County needs to score only 30 more points this season to pass the 1979 championship team and move into 2nd on the scoring list.  Now a little bit about the Claxton game.

The Trojans got off to a sloppy start...I was told that we were playing like we practiced on Wednesday.  Our first two possessions ended in turnovers.  Claxton wasn't able to capitalize on the first but turned the second turnover into six points.  Michael Peel hit Bron Glover on a 4th and 8 from the 18 to put Claxton ahead 6-0.  However, things would turn to the Trojans favor pretty quick.  On our next possession D. J. Rozier carried the ball all six plays for 79 yards, with the final run being for 67 yards and the tying touchdown.  Alex Allen put the Trojans up 7-6 with the extra point and JOCO never looked back.  The Trojans would put up four more touchdowns in the final 6:43 of the first half.  The first was on a 19 yard pass from D.J. Rozier to Zach Walker that ended a 78 yard drive.  The next two scores came after interceptions.  Zach Walker picked the first and ran down to the Claxton seven.  D. J. Rozier ran it in from there.  Robkevious Norris picked the second one on a failed fake punt by Claxton.  Norris returned the interception 40 yards.  Once again it only took one play...this time D.J. Rozier hit Shamarko Brown for a 30 yard touchdown.    The final touchdown of the half came after a 58 yard Claxton punt pinned the Trojans at their own 13 with just 1:30 left.  D.J. Rozier hit Zach Walker from two yards out with just 2.8 seconds remaining to give JOCO a 34-6 halftime lead.

Claxton took the kickoff and put together a nice drive down to the Johnson County 20 but turned the ball over on downs.  The Trojans would mount their final scoring drive from there.  On the eighth play of the drive Glendarrius Darrisaw bulled his way into the end zone from one yard out.  The Alex Allen PAT concluded the scoring.  The fourth quarter went by fast as the mercy rule was in effect.  D. J. Rozier had another great game...rushing for 149 yards and passing for 190 yards.  He did all of that, with the exception of 30 passing yards, in the first half.  Zach Walker had seven receptions for 103 yards and Shamarko Brown added four catches for 73 yards.  Glendarrius Darrisaw went over the 100 yard mark with 101 rushing yards on just 10 carries.  The Johnson County Trojans will host the Terrell County Green Wave on Friday night in the first round of the state playoffs.  Come out to the Blue Monster and support the Trojans!!!
