JOCO 46 EAST LAURENS 21

The Johnson County Trojans (2-0) picked up a win in their home opener against long time rival East Laurens (0-2).  The 46-21 win gives Johnson County a 24-17 edge over the course of the rivalry.  The young Falcons put up a gritty fight but in the end they could not match the firepower of the Trojans.

The Trojans took the opening possession at their own 24 and after two runs by D. J. Rozier had almost flipped the field.  Another run by Rozier got the ball down to the East Laurens nine where he hit Zack Walker for the first score.  Four plays after the Trojans defense made a big stop on fourth down Rozier hit Walker again, this time from 41 yards, for another touchdown.  The Alex Allen kick made the score 13-0.  East Laurens put a score up with 2:40 remaining in the first quarter to make it 13-7.  Walker made a spectacular catch on a Rozier pass to get the ball down to the one as time ran out in the quarter.  Bull Darrisaw ran the ball in on the next play and Allen made the kick to give the Trojan a 20-7 lead.  East Laurens had the ball for most of the second quarter but the closest they got to scoring was the Trojans 26 as time ran out in the half.  JOCO, on the other hand, made the most of their only other possession of the quarter.  The Trojans went 63 yards in four plays for the touchdown.  The big play on the drive was a 50 yard run by Rozier.  Rico Outlaw made his first career catch a big one as it went for a 17 yard touchdown.  The Alex Allen kick made the score 27-7 at halftime.

The Falcons showed right away in the third quarter that they weren't going away lightly.  They ran the opening kickoff 72 yards down to the Johnson County 12.  Three plays later the score was 27-14.  Johnson County matched that score four minutes later.  The Trojans went 76 yards on 11 plays.  Keemo Burton went the final four for the touchdown.  The Falcons answered with a nice drive of their own.  They went 60 yards in 13 plays to put another score on the board early in the fourth quarter.  The score was 33-21.  After an excellent kickoff and a penalty Johnson County was pinned inside their own 10.  However, the Trojans would drive 93 yards in seven plays for another touchdown.  Nigel Bacon ate up most of the yardage with a 41 yard run.  Shamarko Brown caught a 17 yard Rozier pass for the score.  After an East Laurens fumble that duo hooked up for the final score of the game.  Alex Allen made the kick and the final score was 46-21.

The Trojans offense piled up almost 500 yards of total yards.  D. J. Rozier was responsible for the bulk as he rushed for 171 yards and passed for 151 yards.  Zack Walker caught four passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns.  Nigel Bacon and Keemo Burton helped out the running game.  Bacon rushed for 71 yards and Burton had 46.  On defense Kelvion Johnson led the way again with 13 tackles, including one sack and one forced fumble.  Tony Solen added eight tackles.  This week the Trojans face Calvary Day at the Blue Monster.  Come out and support the Trojans
