JOCO 34
PORTAL 14 |
|
The Johnson County Trojans
improved to 4-0 on the year with a 34-14 win over the Portal Panthers.
The Trojans got the scoring started quickly. On the fifth play of the
opening drive D. J. Rozier hit Zack Walker in the corner of the end zone
from 35 yards out for the touchdown. After a Portal fumble the Trojans
methodically moved down the field, mostly using the run. D. J. Rozier
went the final yard for the touchdown. Portal answered with a score of
their own late in the quarter. The score after one quarter was JOCO 14
Portal 7. The Trojans scored again early in the second quarter.
D. J. Rozier ran four yards for the touchdown. The Trojans next two
possessions ended in fumbles, with the second one being costly. A
fumble in the end zone was recovered by Portal for a touchdown. JOCO
was not going to half on that sour note, however. The Trojans marched
70 yards in the final three minutes to stretch the halftime margin back to
two touchdowns. D. J. Rozier and Zack Walker hooked up for a beautiful
31 yard pass and catch in the corner of the end zone. The Trojans
dominated the first half statistically, piling up 305 yards of total offense
to 79 for Portal, but the score was only JOCO 27 Portal 14 at the half.
The third quarter was mostly
uneventful, two punts by Portal and one by JOCO. However, JOCO would
start their final scoring drive on their second possession late in the
quarter. The Trojans put together a 13 play 92 yard drive that took
5:44 off the clock. Nigel Bacon went the final seven yards to give
JOCO a 34-14 lead. Portal's final possession ended with a fumble.
After gettting one first down Coach Norton put the JV in to finish the game.
D. J. Rozier completed 13-23 passes for 196 yards (177 in the first half)
and rushed for 72 yards. Zack Walker caught four passes for 83 yards
(all in the first half). Glendarrius Darrisaw came back from an injury
and got 76 yards on 13 rushes.
The big game is this Friday...E.
C. I. The JOCO fans need to come out like they have in the two
previous home games and support the Trojans. E. C. I. has another very
good football team. |
