JOCO 28 WILKINSON COUNTY 27 (OT)

The Johnson County Trojans (1-0) kicked off the season in exciting fashion on Friday.  The home standing Wilkinson County Warriors (0-1) were heavily favored to win this game.  After losing a nine point lead in the fourth quarter the Trojans regrouped to pull out a one point overtime win.

JOCO got the scoring started on the first possession of the game.  The drive was highlighted by a 47 yard run by quarterback D. J. Rozier down to the two yard line.  Rozier hit Zack Walker with a pass from there for the touchdown.  Alex Allen made the first of four big extra points.  Wilkinson County answered with just a few seconds remaining in the quarter.  The extra point attempt failed and JOCO led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.  The Trojans scored again with just over two minutes remaining in the half.  D. J. Rozier ran the ball in from one yard out.  Allen made the extra point to give JOCO a 14-6 halftime lead.

After a couple of exchanges of possession Wilkinson County picked off a pass deep in Trojans territory.  The Warriors scored three plays later.  The two point conversion attempt failed and JOCO led 14-12.  The Trojans answered with 8 seconds remaining in the third quarter.  Thanks to a 67 yard kickoff return by Shamarko Brown the Trojans started at the Wilkinson County 22 yard line.  After four runs by Nigel Bacon got the Trojans close Walker caught a five yard pass from Rozier for the touchdown.  Allen made the extra point to give the Trojans a 21-12 lead.  Wilkinson County drove 60 yards in the fourth quarter to get within three.  The drive was aided by two 15 yard penalties against the Trojans.  Once again the Warriors failed to make the conversion and JOCO led by three, 21-18, with just over seven minutes remaining.  After a bad snap on a punt attempt the Warriors were back in business at the Johnson County 24.  The Trojans defense made a huge stop on fourth and one to halt the Warriors.  JOCO ran out all by 43 seconds on the clock before having to give the ball back to the Warriors.  The Trojans thought they had the Warriors stopped and the game won but the referees put 1 second on the clock...just enough time for Wilkinson County to try a game tying field goal.  The 32 yard attempt hit the crossbar and bounced over to tie the game.  Then came overtime.  JOCO had the ball first and took only one play to score.  Rozier hit Brown over the middle for the 15 yard score.  Alex Allen made the fourth extra point of the night to give JOCO a 28-21 lead.  Wilkinson County scored in three plays to get within one but instead of going for the tie they went for two and the win.  Once again the Trojans defense made a huge stop and JOCO won 28-27.

The biggest star of the game was, perhaps, Alex Allen.  Allen's extra points were the difference in the game.  D. J. Rozier passed for 119 yards and rushed for 65 yards.  Zack Walker caught seven passes for 88 yards.  On defense Kelvin Rozier, Tony Solen and Shamarko Brown had interceptions...Rozier also had a fumble recovery.  JOCO will host their rival, East Laurens (0-1) next week.  The Falcons are coming off a 42-7 loss to West Laurens.  Come out and support the Trojans.
