The Trojans improved to 2-0 on the season with an
impressive performance on Thursday night. Don't let the final score
fool you it was 42-7 with 7:00 minutes remaining. The Trojans JV got
some valuable playing time from there on...unfortunately the Calvary Day JV
did not. The Cavalier starters got three touchdowns
against the JOCO JV in the final seven minutes of the game but the Trojan JV
defense made them work for it. The last two touchdowns
came in the final 22 seconds after two fumbles on the kickoff returns set up
the Cavaliers deep in Trojan territory.
The Trojans opened the scoring on the first play
of the game. Daniel Wright caught a 57 yard touchdown pass from D. J.
Rozier. After a Calvary punt the Trojans scored seven plays later.
The big play on the drive was a 41 yard pass from Rozier to Zack Walker.
The touchdown came on a 21 yard Rozier pass to Larry Taylor. A Rozier
conversion pass to Zack Walker would make the score 14-0. Calvary
would strike next...Stroud hit Dom DeMasi for a 38 yard touchdown pass just
out of the reach of Daniel Wright. Deon Cuyler returned the ensuing
kickoff 97 yards for another Trojan touchdown. The score at the end of
the quarter was JOCO 20 Calvary 7.
The second quarter would not see nearly the
action as the first. The only score came with 3:12 remaining on a 12
yard pass from D. J. Rozier to Kevin Rozier. The conversion pass from
Stanquez Carlyle to Rex Walker made the score 28-7. The Trojans had
previously driven to the Calvary seven but did not score. A 43 yard
run by D. J. Rozier set the Trojans up but JOCO turned the ball over on
downs. Calvary never threatened in the quarter.
JOCO opened the second half like the
first...scoring on their first play. After a Calvary punt Daniel
Wright rushed 43 yards for the touchdown. A D. J. Rozier to Zack
Walker conversion pass made the score 36-7. Calvary had the ball for
most of the rest of the third quarter but didn't do much with it...they had
56 yards on 18 plays.
The Trojans final score came with 7 minutes
remaining in the game. Stanquez Carlyle came in for Rozier and capped
off a 49 yard drive with a two yard run. The Cavaliers got their
second score of the game after a 10 play 79 yard drive against the Trojan
JV. The Trojans had a fumble on the kickoff to set Calvary up
at the Trojan 22. Seven plays later they scored to make it 42-21.
The night was not over, however. Another fumble on the ensuing
kickoff set the Cavaliers up at the Trojan 24. A 17 yard pass down to
the seven, two runs and one timeout later gave the Cavaliers their final
score. The final was JOCO 42 Calvary Day 28.
D. J. Rozier led the Trojans. Rozier
completed 6-8 passes for 174 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also completed
two conversion passes and rushed for 43 yards on 5 carries. Daniel
Wright led the rushers with 63 yards and Larry Taylor led the receivers with
64 yards on 3 receptions. The Trojans will travel to Portal next
Friday to face the Panthers. Portal has started the season 0-2.
Portal lost to Jenkins County 21-6 after losing to Metter.
